What we say and do on social media not only effects us , it effects everyone around us !

The growing popularity of social media has had many positive and negative implications for society. Social media has impacted our society for better and for worse. It is up to us to decide how we view social media and how we allow social networking to either benefit or harm our lives. While social media has many positive implications, including promoting awareness of specific causes, advertising businesses and helping foster friendships between individuals who may have never met without social networking, it can also lead to negative implications. Social media sites were developed as a tool to communicate with others by sharing personal information, photos, videos, comments and more.

For the trucking industry social media has brought both a positive and negative impact to our industry.

  • Drivers can now easily communicate with family and friends where ever they are
  • access weather and road reports
  • locate customers
  • keep informed with rules and regulations
  • stay connected within the trucking industry
  • Learn of industry events, truck shows etc
  • Bond with fellow drivers
  • Carriers can now easily recruit
  • Keep drivers informed of company changes
  • Changes to regulations etc
  • Promote their company
  • Promote driver accomplishments
  • Learn of industry events, truck shows etc

Social networking can sometimes result in negative outcomes, some with long-term consequences.

  • Allowing the spread of misinformation that may be perceived as fact
  • Bullying
  • Creating a culture in which a single mistake such as a picture or poorly thought-out comment can cause irreparable harm to either a person or companies reputation
  • If you affiliate your job with your personal social media profile, keep in mind you are representing both yourself and your employer, you are a rolling billboard for your company
  • Failure to treat fellow human beings with dignity, and respect regardless of gender, race or religion
  • Showing images of victims or accident scenes
  • Jumping to conclusions based on just a picture
  • Taking pictures or videos while driving is unprofessional and distractive driving
  • Negative impact on CVOR ( direct result from distractive driving)
  • Effect Insurance rates ( Insurance companies monitor social media sites)

Quite often the public media only ever reports the negative within our industry and never the positive. Drivers complain they jump to conclusions without knowing the facts. Yet this is something I often see by drivers on social media. Isn’t it time we were all responsible for what we post and share… Would you want your family to learn of your accident on social media ??? Would you like to be falsely accused of causing an accident ??? Have your skills judged by your peers based on a picture ??? Regardless of whether you’re a driver, carrier or the media get the facts before passing judgement .  Let’s all try to focus more on the positive than the negative. Think twice before you post and share.

What we say and do on social media not only effects us , it effects everyone around us !

The New Driver Training Program has been developed to provide novice drivers with an additional 6-8 weeks, on-the-road training, with a DeckX Trainer, in order to enhance their driving skills. This training will include additional instruction in the use of tarps, straps and chains with which to provide the knowledge and skills required, so as to successfully operate flat decks. New drivers will continue with their skills development once they have successfully completed the 6-8 week program and have been promoted from a Driver Trainee and have been dispatched on their 1st independent load.

The Flat Deck Training requirement, for highly skilled and experienced drivers, is designed to teach the knowledge and skills needed, to secure loads using tarps, straps, and chains. Drivers will again continue their skills development once having been dispatched on their 1st independent load.

If you are interested in starting or furthering your career as a professional in the Trucking Industry , joining a professional association is a good start. There are associations for nearly every profession in the work  force. An association is a synergistic group, meaning that the effect of a collection of people is greater than just one person. So, how exactly can becoming part of this synergistic group help further your goals? Here are some benefits of joining an association. For most people, creating professional relationships is important, and joining a group allows you to have a sense of security and trust. From this, you are able to support and help one another in reaching your professional goals. Associations can sponsor numerous events throughout the year that allows you to connect with your peers. You can share ideas, ask for advice, volunteer to be a speaker or become a member of a committee. Since most associations have International or local conferences, you can participate and have the opportunity to learn about breaking news in your group, learn “best practices” or new ideas, hear about key achievers in your field and also meet and brainstorm with others who are also looking to share and learn new information. Another benefit of enhancing your association is that you may find a mentor to help you with your professional needs or you may be in a position to become a mentor to someone else. Giving back can be the greatest reward and benefit. Participating in forums, chat groups or discussion boards sponsored by the association is also a great way to grow your network. This allows you to use your peers as sounding boards and often make some great friends with the same interests as you. And don’t forget, listing your association membership on your resume is impressive to current or future employers as it shows that you are dedicated to staying connected in your profession.
