Eassons Transport

Eassons Transport

The Company Story

When William Easson started hauling fresh Annapolis Valley apples across Nova Scotia in 1945, he never imagined Eassons Transport would someday transport shipments to hundreds of cities across Canada and the U.S.

His brother, Phillip, joined Eassons Transport’s Berwick office in the 1950s to take care of the equipment and maintenance. Together, the brothers expanded the business throughout the ’60s and ’70s by taking on bakery runs — ensuring freshly-baked bread was delivered across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

The longhaul business was booming as they trucked thousands of loads to destinations across New Brunswick, PEI, and Newfoundland. When loads to Newfoundland slowed down in the ’80s with the decline of the fishing industry, Eassons shifted focus to the eastern U.S. — delivering fresh and frozen products within tight deadlines.

The 90s brought big changes for the Eassons team, we introduced satellite tracking and communication that allowed customers to track time-sensitive shipments. In partnership with Debra Gioia, Eassons opened a dry freight division in Moncton, New Brunswick under the name Elite Fleet, acquired Sarsfield Transport and added McNeils Transport — bringing the Eassons Transport fleet up to 40 vans, 90 tractors, and 100 trailers.

To better serve our customer needs, Eassons opened an office in Mt. Pearl, Newfoundland in 1998 and then opened another office in Mississauga, Ontario less than a year later to service the rapidly-growing LTL (less than truckload) freight business and manage all central dispatching. By 2001, Eassons’ customers could even track their shipments and invoices online in real-time.

In 2015, Eassons grew again by purchasing Ciloe Group Inc. and bringing two successful family-owned and operated businesses into the fold: Choice Reefer Systems (CRS) in Belleville, Ontario, in operation since 1985; and David Brown United, based in Waterville, Nova Scotia, since 1949.

Decades after William and Phillip Easson first hauled those truckloads of apples, hundreds of long-term employees including family members are proud to continue this legacy of safely delivering dry, fresh, and frozen shipments to customers across North America with a modern fleet of more than 325 tractors and 480 trailers, a 2,800 sq. ft. freezer, and 15,000 sq. ft. refrigerated dock space.
